I call myself a Christian, BUT I don’t need to go to church!! That is a comment I hear all the time, but I don’t see much proof Biblically to back that idea up. I can come up with many reasons why one should.
- 1) Hebrews 10:25(ESV) not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
- I think this is pretty clear that the BIBLE is saying NOT to neglect meeting together to encourage and build one another up. Its like a recovery group for addicts, they struggle to get sober and stay sober so they meet with one another to hold each other accountable .
- 2) Luke 14:23 And the master said to the servant, ‘Go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled.
My house refers to HIS church, that is Jesus home and HE is telling us our job as CHRISTIANS is to go and compel others to come to HIS house, hope can we fulfill this duty if we cant even bring ourselves?
- 3) Malachi 3:8 Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, ‘How have we robbed you?’ In your tithes and contributions. Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need..
God commands us to tithe (denari-a tenth) and bring it into HIS storehouse ( the church) . If we fail to do this we are looked at as a thief by GOD….While tithing is not mentioned in the new testament first fruits is, and that change of terminology refers to JESUS as a first fruits offering . God desires us to give our first and best first..top 10% off the top to him…
These mere 3 things alone in my opinion are the backbone of why we are compelled to attend church.
